Our Story

Bob has brought together the RL-QMS team, who share his passion for Quality and the positive impact Quality has on organizations and their workers. We have been working Closely with large and small companies over the last 30 years establishing and maintaining their QMS while optimizing/fixing their manufacturing processes. We realized that the requirements of a full QMS written to meet industry standards isn’t a necessary fit for all companies at all stages of their development.

For Start-ups - why would a company that hasn’t held their first design review need a Nonconforming Parts Procedure or a Corrective Action Procedure right now? 

For smaller companies - why add unnecessary aspects of a traditional QMS or controls without the benefit of any real value?

For large companies, they may or may not need a QMS that meets the full industry standards; however, are they focusing on the aspects that are going to contribute most to their bottom line?

Working with these smaller, start-ups and even larger companies gave us the idea for our QMS Build-to-Fit Model. These experiences were also interesting, enjoyable, and exciting. We soon understood how much we liked working with energetic teams with new ideas and ambition. Our goal has become to find start-ups and any/all businesses that could benefit from our Built-to-Fit QMS model.  

WHAT ELSE?

We also realized that many of our potential customers were back-against-the-wall designing and developing their product. The Manufacturing Process and Supplier Base seems to be a need… “but with everyone wearing so many hats, we can’t focus on that right now with everything that’s going on”. 

The truth is, process identification and development as well as supplier identification and selection must occur much earlier in the evolution than many of our customers understood. Delays in developing these 2 facets of an organization equate to huge delays in sales and dissatisfied customers. They may ultimately lead to an unsuccessful venture as well due to newly required design and/or material changes. We have been working with companies closely for 30+ years assisting with many important functions as well. See our Services page for a full listing.

Best of all, the processes we’ll help establish will be structured to easily fit your company’s future, larger and ultimately potentially necessary QMS requirements.

Meet the team

BOB LERNER

Bob is Principal of RL-QMS. He has 35 years of experience in the quality field - starting with IBM's high-end printed circuit board manufacturing production line in Endicott, NY, and progressing into the fields of Aerospace, Medical, and Commercial Manufacturing.

He holds an MS in Engineering Science from RPI.


Bob’s passion is Quality. When he is not at work or with family, he is volunteering with the local American Society for Quality (ASQ) executive committee or he is expanding his personal quality tool belt.  Most recently he added certification as an Exemplar Global ISO 9001 Lead Auditor.
